The work revolves inexorably around the rights of women, minorities and the weakest, or around interiority and domesticity with the production of
‘women’s crafts. All of this had to unfold and come to light, as the title of the exhibition suggests, with an exuberance of techniques: drawings, paintings, ceramics, textiles, installations…
Tisna Westerhof’s work absorbs current data concerning social injustices and makes them lasting by transferring them to domestic objects.
Handkerchief embroidery, a traditional activity, inscribes a letter on each piece of fabric, like an initial, but the full name is a protest. Paper plates evoking the preciousness of Delft blue and bourgeois comfort reproduce press images of struggles and intolerance.
The exhibition demonstrates a way of drawing on personal experience to release an energy for change.”
